New seven-seat Freelander 2 variant and production LRX info revealed!



According to reports from Autocar Magazine, Land Rover is working on a new seven-seat Freelander 2 variant and a production LRX model. The seven-seat Freelander 2 variant ( codename L486 ) is said to be based on the current five-seater Freelander 2 platform but will have new sheet metal with hints of LRX, unique interior and a longer wheelbase to accommodate the third row of seats. The name 'Ventura' has been suggested for the new model and it could go on sale in 2012.

Three and five door LRX models are expected to go into production around the same time as the 'Ventura'. Both of these new Land Rover models will likely receive new fuel saving powertrains and they're expected to be built at Land Rover Jaguars Halewood facility.

What else: We think the seven-seat 'Ventura' and standard Freelander 2 might also receive height adjustable air-suspension see: LINK. We're also wondering if the Ventura, Freelander 2 and LRX will come equipped with a new dual clutch gearbox and a Land Rover magnetic damping system. An all-electric plug-in LRX might also be in the pipeline.
