New Spyshots Reveal Next-Gen Land Rover Discovery 5

Our spyshots reveal test mules of the Land Rover Discovery 5, which is due to be unveiled in 2016.
LROs eagle-eyed snappers have grabbed some shots of the 2017 Land Rover Discovery 5, still thoroughly under wraps. Heres what we know
1. The Discovery 5 will be made from aluminium
Using the PLA (Premium Lightweight Architecture) of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will enable Land Rover to extract up to half a tonne off the weight of the Discovery 4, whose 2.5-tonne steel bulk has been its Achilles heel for a while now. That should bring significant handling and economy advantages compared to the current model.
2. Itll be Ingenium powered
One of the vehicles in our spyshots is powered by 3.0-litre diesel engine, and 3.0-litre petrol versions have also been spotted elsewhere. We know that the new Ingenium engine has been designed with larger displacements and cylinder counts in mind, so its possible that these are the new, 3.0 V6 Ingenium units that our sources have hinted at.
The other vehicle is a 2.0-litre diesel. Generating a maximum of 187bhp in the current Disco Sport, the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel might feel puny in the larger Discovery 5 unless it was boosted by hybrid power. The PLA was engineered from the outset to accommodate full hybrid drive, which is available in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Applying that engineering to the Discovery 5 would seem logical
3. Itll resemble the Discovery Vision concept
If youve come to love the Discovery 4s brick-like road presence, you might not like whats coming. The Disco 5 will be much closer to the Discovery Vision concept (unveiled in April last year) than its predecessor.
At first glance the development vehicles seem to have large, bulging hindquarters, but compare them against the silhouette of the Discovery Vision concept and youll see the resemblance. They share the shallow stepped roofline, curved clamshell bonnet (like the Disco Sport) and those vertical front bumper intakes. The concepts pillarless doors and lack of B-pillar may be too much to ask for though
4. Itll be priced accordingly
Industry experts have speculated that using the light-weight PLA architecture could add up to Ŗ7000 to the starting price of the Discovery 5. With the current vehicle available from Ŗ41,600 in the UK, this would give a starting from for the Discovery 5 of around Ŗ49,000.
