The Freelander 1 was the highest-selling 4x4 in Europe.

Genuine spares for the Freelander 1 are now supplied by the Land Rover Heritage parts scheme

It’s hard to think of the groundbreaking Freelander 1 as a ‘heritage’ model, but 19 years have now passed since the model's production began at Halewood in 1997, and it's a decade since the last was built.

That ten-year period qualifies the Freelander 1 to enter the Heritage parts programme. It’s the eighth to join the scheme, after the Series I, II and III, Range Rover Classic and P38 Range Rover, and the Discovery 1 and 2.

Replacement parts have already been available for the Freelander, but only now will they come under the purview of Land Rover Heritage – the division dedicated to services, parts and experiences for classic Land Rovers.

The Heritage scheme now includes more than 33,000 parts for classic Land Rovers and Jaguars, of which around 9000 are for the Freelander 1.

Tim Hannig, Director of Jaguar Land Rover Heritage, said: ‘With the addition of the Freelander 1 as a Heritage model, Land Rover is reaffirming its support and commitment to its loyal customers by providing exceptional cars, services, parts and experiences for models more than 10 years out of production.

‘Genuine Land Rover Heritage Parts for Freelander 1 have been engineered and tested in extreme conditions. As such it gives our customers total peace-of-mind that their vehicles are maintained to the highest possible standards.’

The Land Rover Freelander 1 has become the latest car to benefit from the brand’s Heritage status, JLR have revealed.

The Freelander remains one of Land Rover’s best selling vehicles of all time, and Mk1 owners will now be subject to services, parts and experiences courtesy of the Green Oval’s Heritage division.

Land Rover define a Heritage model as one that has been out of production for over a decade. With the Freelander 1 produced between 1997 and 2006, it’s only natural that it should now join the Heritage ranks following the turn of the year.

Following its debut nearly two decades ago, the Freelander was revolutionary thanks to no less than had 16 patented features, including Hill Descent Control (HDC), Immediate Reduction Drive (IDR), a viscous-coupling (VCU) and an innovative ABS system designed specifically for off-road.

Tim Hannig, Director, Jaguar Land Rover Heritage, said: “With the addition of the Freelander 1 as a Heritage model, Land Rover is reaffirming its support and commitment to its loyal customers by providing exceptional cars, services, parts and experiences for models more than 10 years out of production.

“Genuine Land Rover Heritage Parts for Freelander 1 have been engineered and tested in extreme conditions. As such it gives our customers total peace-of-mind that their vehicles are maintained to the highest possible standards.”

The Freelander 1 becomes the brand’s eighth Heritage model, and joins Series I, II and III, Range Rover Classic and P38 Range Rover plus Discovery 1 and 2.
