The Honda Crossroad
Produced by Land Rover for Honda in Japan, the Honda Crossroad was basically a badge engineered Series 1 Discovery.
No, this isnt a Photoshopped image
its a spectacular example of badge-engineering that we were somehow unaware of until our Japan Correspondent, Peter Nunn, hipped us to its existence.
Honda apparently sold a small number of first-generation Land Rover Discovery SUVs in Japan under license as the Crossroad. The strange arrangement came about as a result of the Japanese automakers close ties with (then) parent Rover. As you may recall, Europe received a number of Honda-Rover offspring, while America had to make do with the ill-fated Sterling brand, which gave us the 827 sedan and hatchback.
Those with long memories for questionably badge-engineered Honda SUVs may further remember that the automaker also marketed Isuzus Rodeo as the Passport, and an already-aging Trooper as the Acura SRX, having been caught unprepared for the exploding popularity of SUVs in America.
