UPDATE
Many thanks to those who have advised us you will be attending the Hungarian LR and Military Vehicle event.
For those of you who are still undecided, we are pleased to say that the WEB SITE IS NOW UP AND RUNNING... sorry for the delay.

On the site you will find maps of the BEREG area, photos of previous smaller events and the lovely countryside.

Note: when we started planning the event, it was to be held in the village of Csaroda in the Bereg area of Hungary.
To our delight, most of the other villages now wish to participate, so the event will be called BEREG 2006.

On the web site you will also find a draft programme of events.
The Hungarian Land Rover Association (MLRE) is actively involved in organising BEREG 2006.

I have also included several useful links and contact e-mail addresses.
Send us an e-mail if you have any questions or suggestions.

Please let us know if you wish to attend BEREG 2006. Regarding costs: there may be a small charge if we have a communal dinner. But everything else is FREE.

We are expecting between 120-150 landrovers to participate in this event and prices will be given for variour cathegories of Landrover and for Landrover wich travelled furthest to come to this event.

All camping, toilets and water are free of charge at this meeting and the British Ambassador to Hungary HE Mr John Nicols will open the event on Friday.

There is a lot of offroading to be done in this very beautiful area of Hungary. We will be constantly updating our website and hope that you will be meeting with many likeminded Landrover fans from around the world.

Another update on the Bereg 2006 Land Rover and Military Event.
7 July to 9 July

We are now even easier to find. Last week Google Maps was updated. It
is now possible to see maps of Hungary.
Even more exciting, it is possible to view satellite imagery of the
Bereg area.

If you enter the following text "48.2003N 22.4080E"
the Google Map will zoom in to Vamosatya which will be the base for the
event.
Just south of the village is a large field which is the campsite.

Although the whole Bereg area is not covered by satellite images, you
can get a good idea of the geography.
To my surprise there seems to be more dirt roads than on the official
maps. However, some of the dirt roads on the map seem to have vanished.
Good luck with your navigation!

Sunday: visits to local hot spots: Border tour, visit to Palinka
distillery, etc.

Another development... the mayor of Vamosatya is very kindly supplying
toilets and local residents will cook sausages and gulash or other
delicacies with the famous Hungarian bogracs (A large cauldron over a
wood fire).

BEREG 2006
CANCELLED!

Dear Enthusiast

Following our invitation to the Land Rover meeting on 7-9th July I regret to inform you that this meeting has been cancelled.
The reason for this is that the mayor of Vámosatya promised the Military Enthusiasts and the Land Rover Association of Hungary a field for this event which we should use.

He promised:
the field
toilets, washing facility, buffet, evening meal and
arrange all the necessary permits.

He offered the field, then he asked for 100,000 Forint to cut the long grass so that we can use it.
He did not arrange anything so far; therefore we have regretfully decided to cancel this meeting because we are running out of time.
We are sorry about this bureaucratic stupidity which is beyond our control, but we have been let down very badly by the mayor who promised everything and delivered nothing.
This event would have been a great publicity for the Bereg region, would have bought international tourists to Bereg and help the local economy, but it seems that certain people do not understand the changes which have taken place in the last 15 years.
Again I am sorry for this and looking forward to seeing you in the near future,
