“The Land of Aecheans” – The Peloponnese by 4x4
The adventure trip in the Peloponnese can be taken in all seasons and includes the most interesting areas of the “old” Greece. It has the character of real 4X4, and it reveals the hidden natural beauty of the area through off the map roads and lumberjack forest trails.

Day 1: Patras – Alpine Achaia
Meeting in Patras and briefing in Rio. We begin the off road adventure heading in the direction of Panachaikon mountain. Ascending towards central alpine Achaia through forest roads we pass by the ancient geometric temple of Rakita and crossing a gorge we head down towards the valley of the Selinoundas river. We pass Lapanagyi –a village of architectural interest- and we carry on along the gorge, continually crossing the river for about 15km. We then follow forest trails ascending to 1500m. After a fir covered route we reach ancient Psofida on the Tripotama, where 3 rivers meet. Via tarmac road, we reach river X4 camp. Barbecue dinner. The night spent in camping or hostel.

Day 2: Alpine Achaia – Foloi forests – River X4 camp
Our journey starts by traveling in the Ladonas river area and then we ascend the Erymanthos mountain (1400m). Through a beautiful mountain track of approx. 35km we reach and cross a gorge with a river in the Forest of Foloi, unique forest of tall oak trees –the domain of the mythical Centaurs, where we stop for a picnic. We continue our journey descending the gorge and crossing the Erymanthos river. After we come to the end of the gorge, we follow a tarmac mountain road through forgotten historical villages, reaching the lake formed by the Ladonas river near which there is a 4X4 terrain. Later, we arrive at the river X4 camp. Barbecue dinner. The night spent in camping or hostel.

Day 3: Alpine Achaia – Mainalo mountain
The route follows a river and after crossing it, we reach the area around the lake from where we head towards Mainalo mountain through special off road trails used only by lumberjacks. We arrive at the historic town of Dimitsana and pay a visit to the “Open Air Water Power Museum” and the 18th century Gunpowder Mills. After crossing the Lousias river gorge, we visit an historic monastery, which had served as a secret school during the Turkish occupation. The route passes by ancient Gortyna and leads through a side-river gorge with wonderful 16th and 17th century stone bridges to our destination which is the historic town of Andritsaina. Traditional lunch in a local taverna. The night spent at hostel.

Day 4: Andritsaina – Messinian Mani
The day starts with a visit to the archaeological site in Vasses, to the temple of Epicoureios Apollon, which is a copy of the Parthenon in Athens, built by the exiled architect Ictinos and ancient Fygaleis. We depart heading towards the Taygetos mountain on a road of exquisite beauty at the mountain slope, on off road / off map trails. We stop at a spot with a view for a picnic. Later, we follow the road parallel to and in a beautiful gorge, ending the Messinian Mani. Dinner and night spent at hostel or camping on the beach.

Day 6: Laconia X4camp – Alpine Arcadia
The day starts by driving on “special” routes in the Parnon mountain. Then we trek for a short while to an old monastery where we picnic. We ride through a chestnut tree forest, on the edge of Zaracas mountain and later by traveling through a 30km gorge we reach the protected traditional village of Kastanitsa. We ascend to the highest point of Parnon mountain (1934m) driving through the only cedar forest of southern Europe (Natura 2000) with our last destination being the “wooden village” in Doliana, surrounded by forest. Later, through a fir covered road we descend to the springs of the Aroanios river, which are full of wild trout. The forest trail leads us to lake Doxa where there is an exceptional 4X4 terrain. We visit the 16th century monastery of St George, and the group will be offered a traditional rose petal preserve.
