Land Rover sales in Russia have increased 54.4 percent in 2006 to 6,299 vehicles according to a report in Prime-Tass via itar-Tass. Recent reports from Russia's Kommersant newspaper also suggest Land Rover could be gearing up for local production of Freelander 2 at Ford's Vsevolozhsk facility near Saint Petersburg. According to Kommersant, Ford's Russian facility, which currently assembles Ford's European Focus, could produce up to 15,000 Freelander 2's a year for the local market.
