Series axle identification
This is what I've researched, worked out and cross checked. It took quite a while and I still don't have all of the answers - please let me know if there are any errors in it to make sure the info is accurate and usable. The things in bold I haven't been able to check and may not be correct, or there has been conflicting reports. Or please just confirm anything which is in bold or otherwise too! Thanks for any help.

Hopefully this also saves other people a lot of time trying to work all of this out, and money by not buying the wrong parts.

Note that the axles which are under your Landy, may not be the factory fitted axles by now.

Series II/IIa
Axle codes: Match chassis number, you can use a VIN calculator to ID the vehicle which the axles came from.


SWB - 4.7:1 Rover front 10 spline diff, 10 spline outer axle, 10" brakes, Imperial bearings, 7/16" wheel cylinder threads, UNF wheel studs.

SWB - 4.7:1 Rover rear 10 spline diff, 10 spline outer axle, narrow SWB spring perch spacing, 10" brakes, Imperial bearings, UNF wheel cylinder threads, 7/16" wheel studs.

LWB 4cyl - 4.7:1 Rover front 10 spline diff, 10 spline outer axle, 11" x 2.25" brakes, Imperial bearings, UNF wheel cylinder threads, 7/16" wheel studs.

LWB 4cyl - 4.7:1 Rover rear 10 spline diff, 10 spline outer axle, wide LWB spring perch spacing, 11" x 2.25" brakes, Imperial bearings, UNF wheel cylinder threads, 7/16" wheel studs.

LWB 6cyl - 4.7:1 Rover front 10 spline diff, 10 spline outer axle, 11" x 3" brakes, Imperial bearings, UNF wheel cylinder threads, 7/16" wheel studs.

LWB 6cyl - 4.7:1 Salisbury rear 10 spline diff, 10 spline outer axle, wide LWB spring perch spacing, 11" x 2.25" brakes, Imperial bearings, UNF wheel cylinder threads, 7/16" wheel studs.

Note: In approx 1971, the last year of IIa production, the IIa wheel studs changed from 7/16" to 16mm.



Series III
Axles codes: 881 - LWB V8/Isuzu, 901/902 - SWB, 911 - LWB 4cyl, 941 - LWB 6cyl.


Series III to 1980

SWB - 4.7:1 Rover front 10 spline diff, 10 spline outer axle, 10" brakes, Imperial bearings, UNF wheel cylinder threads, 16mm wheel studs.

LWB V8/Isuzu - 3.54:1 Salisbury rear 10 spline diff(???), 10 spline outer axle(???), wide LWB spring perch spacing, 11" x 2.25" brakes, Imperial bearings, UNF wheel cylinder threads, 16mm wheel studs.


Series III 1980 on.
